TBEA to undertake new energy projects in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 17. The documents regarding energy cooperation were signed during a working trip by the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, Trend reports.

These signed documents consist of two memoranda and one memorandum project, two of which were signed with Tebian Electric Apparatus Company (TBEA):

First is the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the Construction of the Sary-Jaz Cascade between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and TBEA.

According to the first memorandum, as explained by the Minister, the construction of six hydroelectric power stations with a combined capacity of 1160 megawatts is planned on the Sary-Jaz and Enilchek rivers. Their annual production will amount to 4 billion kilowatt-hours. The project will be implemented jointly with TBEA over a period of 5 or 6 years.

The second is a Memorandum Project for Cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and TBEA for the Construction of the 500 kV Kemin-Torugart power transmission line.

This document outlines the joint work with TBEA on the project for the construction of the 500-kilovolt Kemin-Torugart power transmission line for the export of electricity to China.

The third document is a Memorandum of Intent between the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the government of Xinjiang for the Integration of Energy Infrastructure for the Purpose of Electricity Supply.

This third document envisions the possibility of exporting electricity from Kyrgyzstan to Xinjiang. Ibraev clarified that specific volume details have not been discussed. Kyrgyzstan intends to supply surplus electricity.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country imported 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through June 2023, which is 32.3 percent higher than in the first half of the previous year (1.5 billion kilowatt-hours).
