Kyrgyzstan notes increase in payments via digital wallets

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 21. The volume of payments for goods and services via digital wallets in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 12.9 billion soms ($146.1 million) from January through June 2023, which is an increase of 44 percent compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

As evidenced from data provided by the National Bank of the country, the number of transactions reached 8.8 million, which is a 24.4 percent increase year-on-year.

Meanwhile, transfers between digital wallets also saw an increase from January through June 2023. Specifically, the volume of money transfer operations reached 11.8 billion soms ($133.6 million), increasing 32.2 percent compared to the same period in 2022. The number of transfers totaled 4.2 million, which is 46 percent more than in the first half of 2022.

Meanwhile, the total number of digital wallets in Kyrgyzstan for the first half of 2023 amounted to 5.8 million, an increase of 14 percent compared to the same months in 2022.

During the period under review, Kyrgyzstan also recorded an increase in the number of transactions conducted through payment cards.

In the first half of 2023, the country registered a total of 53.6 million payment card transactions, which is an increase of 74 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022. The value of these transactions reached 203 billion soms ($2.2 billion), an increase of 68.9 percent year-on-year.
