BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 1. The construction of three small hydropower plants is set to begin on the Chon-Zhargylchak river in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan in the current year, Trend reports.

According to information from the Green Energy Fund of Kyrgyzstan, the following power plants will be built: the Chon-Zhargylchak small HPP with a capacity of 6 MW, the Kichi-Zhargylchak small HPP with a capacity of 6 MW, and the Ak-Terek small HPP with a capacity of 4 MW.

The projects for the construction of these three small hydropower plants are being undertaken by local companies "40 Capital Trust," "DATT Energy," and "INTEK" LLC, which are serving as partners and investors.

As reported, local residents will be involved in the construction and subsequent operation of these small hydropower plants. It is expected that the small hydropower plants will become operational in 2025.

According to the State Statistical Committee of the country, Kyrgyzstan generated 8.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through July 2023, which is 10.4 percent higher than in the corresponding months of 2022 (7.9 billion kilowatt-hours).
