Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan, Spain increases

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 22. Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Spain amounted to $11.558 million from January through July 2023, accounting for 0.1 percent of Kyrgyzstan's trade, Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of the country reveals that this figure increased by 27.6 percent compared to the same period in 2022 ($9.058 million).

Kyrgyzstan's imports from Spain reached $11.187 million, constituting 0.2 percent of Kyrgyzstan's imports. The import supplies almost tripled year-on-year ($3.740 million from January through July 2023).

However, Kyrgyzstan's exports to Spain significantly decreased by 93 percent, dropping to $370,700 in the first seven months of the current year from $5.317 million in the same period of 2022.

In July of the current year, the press office at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation told Trend that the country is determined to further deepen and strengthen its relationship with Kyrgyzstan given the increasing significance of the country and Central Asia in the current geopolitical landscape.

The Ministry pointed out that Kyrgyzstan and other countries of Central Asia are essential for the development of the emerging trade routes between Europe and Asia, especially the Trans Caspian International Transport Route (also known as Middle Corridor).

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.153 billion from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the same months of 2022.

Exports amounted to $1.602 billion, increasing by 45.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022. Imports rose by 29.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $6.551 billion.
