BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 8. Bicycle imports into Kyrgyzstan decreased from January through July 2023, primarily due to reduced deliveries from two major bicycle exporters to Kyrgyzstan: China and South Korea, Trend reports.
Based on Kyrgyzstan's state statistics, the country imported 25,048 bicycles during this reporting period, which is a 45-percent decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. The value of imports also declined by 23 percent year-on-year, amounting to $1.087 million.
South Korea emerged as the top bicycle importer with 9,270 units, but its supplies decreased by 52 percent year-on-year. Imports from China, the second-largest bicycle supplier to Kyrgyzstan, amounted to 7,297 bicycles, which was a 57 percent drop compared to January–July 2022.
However, bicycle imports from Uzbekistan, the third-largest exporter to Kyrgyzstan, increased by 17 percent year-on-year, reaching a total of 6,930 bicycles.
Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.153 billion from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the same months in 2022.
Exports amounted to $1.602 billion, increasing by 45.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022. Imports rose by 29.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $6.551 billion.
