Kyrgyzstan's export of cabbage slumps

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, January 5. Kyrgyzstan exported 5,311 tons of cabbage from January through October 2023, which is 49.6 percent less than the corresponding months of 2022 (10,541 tons), Trend reports.

Data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee indicates that the value of these exports totaled $733,000, which is a 63-percent decrease year-on-year ($2.014 million from January through October 2022).

Kyrgyzstan exported the most cabbage to Russia during this reporting period, 3,984 tons valued at $567,700. 1,260 tons of cabbage were exported to Kazakhstan for $161,300. In addition, 65 tons worth $4,000 were shipped to Uzbekistan.

Exports to Russia fell by 53 percent year on year, in line üith fall in exports to Kazakhstan by 34 percent. From January through October 2022, Kyrgyzstan did not export cabbage to Uzbekistan. In 2022, however, cabbage sent to Mongolia totalled 17 tons with value of $3,900.

From January to October 2023, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $12.297 billion, a 24.9 percent rise from $9.845 billion in the same period in 2022.

Exports from Kyrgyzstan totaled $2.443 billion during the 10 months, marking a 29.6 percent increase compared to $1.885 billion recorded from January through October 2022. Imports into Kyrgyzstan amounted to $9.854 billion during this period, up by 23.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022 ($7.959 billion).
