BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 5. Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Finance said that a total of $456.7 million has already been allocated for the Bishkek-Osh Road Improvement Project, Phase 4, Trend reports.
Kyrgyzstan's government has contributed $80.8 million, while
external donors have provided grants of $35 million and loans of
$341.7 million from institutions such as the Asian Development Bank
(ADB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the
Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Eurasian Development Bank.
The funds have been used to rebuild 630 kilometers of the
route.
The Bishkek-Osh transportation artery connects the country's
northern and southern areas. It actively participates in
international transport integration, connecting the five Central
Asian states to the Economic Cooperation Organization's member
countries.
Moreover, the development of the northern section of the highway provides access to Kazakhstan and Russia.
On October 19, 2023, a tunnel at the 246-kilometer mark of the Bishkek-Osh highway was inaugurated. Construction of the 460-meter tunnel commenced in May 2019, with the overall project cost estimated at $39.2 million.
In 2014, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, along with the EDB and ADB, initiated preparations for the rehabilitation project of the Bishkek-Osh highway.
