Gross agricultural output in Kyrgyzstan increases

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 6. The combined gross output of agriculture, forestry, and fishing in Kyrgyzstan reached 11.780 billion soms ($131.7 million) in January 2024, a 1.4-percent increase compared to January 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, livestock production accounted for 98.4 percent of the total agricultural output in January, while crop production contributed 0.5 percent, forestry 0.1 percent, fishing 0.2 percent, and services 0.8 percent.

Farms and private households contributed 95.3 percent of the total agricultural production. The growth in the gross output of agricultural products in January was driven by an increase in livestock production. Among the regions, the Chuy region held the largest share (27 percent) of the combined gross output of agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan is preparing seeds for the spring sowing season of 2024. As of February 1 of the current year, the country had 82.1 percent of the required 23,000 tons of wheat seeds.
