Kyrgyzstan's cement imports surge in January 2024

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 15. Kyrgyzstan imported 11,641 tons of cement in January 2024, which is 62 percent more than in the corresponding month of 2023 (7,187 tons), Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the value of imports reached $526,385, rising by 20.8 percent compared to $436,592 in January 2023.

During the reporting period, the majority of imports came from Kazakhstan—11,501 tons for $515,091. Smaller quantities were imported from Uzbekistan – 136 tons at $5,712, from China – 2.5 tons at $3,300, and 1 ton at $2,332 from Türkiye.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan produced 97,900 tons of cement in January of the current year, which is 42.1 percent more than in January 2023 (68,900 tons).

To note, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover totaled $1.168 billion in January 2024, which is a 36.8 percent increase compared to January 2023. Exports amounted to $181.3 million, a 46.6 percent increase year-on-year. Imports increased by 35.1 percent, reaching $987.5 million.
