BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 1. Work on the Balykchy—Kochkor—Kara-Keche—Makmal railway construction project in Kyrgyzstan has been completed to the amount of nearly four billion som (over $47 million) to date, the country's President Sadyr Zhaparov said, Trend reports.
He made the statement at a ceremonial event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national railway carrier Kyrgyz Railways (Kyrgyz Temir Zholu) in Bishkek today.
"To date, the construction of this railway has reached 43 km from Balykchy. Work amounting to nearly four billion som has been completed exclusively by Kyrgyz Temir Zholu. This strategic project will not only strengthen Kyrgyzstan's infrastructure but will also connect the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project through the transshipment station in Makmal, playing a key role in creating a unified railway network within the country," Zhaparov noted.
The president reminded that the large-scale Balykchy—Kochkor—Kara-Keche—Makmal project, which is being implemented with Kyrgyzstan's own resources and by Kyrgyz Railways, began in the spring of 2022.
