BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 19. More than 170 investment projects, which total value exceeding $8 billion, are being implemented in Tajikistan at the moment, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said, Trend reports via the presidential press service.
This was stated following Rahmon’s meeting with the representatives of more than 40 investing and trading Chinese companies in Xi'an City in northwest China.
Rahmon noted that over the past 10 years, Chinese investors have contributed $2.6 billion to the Tajik economy, of which more than 57 percent are direct investments.
“Tajikistan is constantly taking the necessary measures to improve the investment climate, and further develop strategic industries and priority sectors, especially energy, transport, industry, agriculture, communications, finance, banking, and tourism,” the president said.
According to him, the government of Tajikistan supports investors, namely there are more than 240 types of guarantees and benefits for them, including more than 100 tax and customs benefits and exemptions.
Furthermore, the head of Tajikistan noted that the fruitful cooperation between Tajikistan and China made it possible to increase the volume of trade by 40 percent last year.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in China on May 17 to attend the China - Central Asia summit on May 18-19. The summit hosts the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. During his visit, the Tajik president also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 18.
