BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Tajikistan plans to increase electricity production by building new hydroelectric power plants, Trend reports.
This statement was made by Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda during an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which was held in Sochi (Russia).
According to him, Tajikistan, in accordance with medium-term plans, seeks to increase the volume of electricity production in the coming years by five times through the construction of new hydroelectric power plants.
The Prime Minister invited the allied countries to cooperate in the development of Tajikistan's hydropower resources in order to stimulate the economic development of the entire region.
Meanwhile, in Tajikistan, about 98 percent of electricity is produced at hydroelectric power plants.
Electricity production in the country this year has reached a maximum for the entire period, amounting to approximately 21.4 billion kilowatt-hours.
