BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29. The World Food Programme (WFP) provided humanitarian assistance to 445,277 people in Tajikistan in May 2023, Trend reports.

According to the WFP, among them, 51 percent were men and 49 percent were women. During this period, a total of 874.2 tons of food were distributed.

In addition to its other assistance, the WFP allocated $77,973 in the form of cash-based transfers.

In 2022, the World Food Programme (WFP) provided assistance to a total of 580,342 individuals in Tajikistan, surpassing the estimated plan by 8 percent.

WFP has been actively involved in Tajikistan since 1993 and currently operates under the Country Strategic Plan (2023-2026) initiated in January 2023.

The strategic plan outlines specific goals for the coming years. By 2026, the aim is to strengthen the livelihoods, resilience, and adaptive capacities of food-insecure and vulnerable populations in both urban and rural areas through the improvement of climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agri-food value chains.

Additionally, the plan aims to enhance food security and nutrition for inclusive human development among rural and urban populations in targeted areas.

Within this plan, WFP also places emphasis on building sustainable food systems to support these goals.
