Major part of Tajikistan's exports account for minerals, concentrates

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 12. Minerals and concentrates accounted for 36.1 percent of the total Tajikistan's exports, amounting to $235.8 million from January through June 2023, Khurshed Karimzoda, head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan said, Trend reports.

He added that cotton fiber constituted 11.5 percent of Tajikistan's exports, equivalent to $75 million, followed by antimony - 8.4 percent ($55.1 million), and aluminum - 9.9 percent ($64.6 million).

Meanwhile, fruits and vegetables accounted for 3.5 percent ($23.1 million) of the Tajik exports, cotton yarn for 3.3 percent ($21.1 million), cement for 3.15 percent ($20.0 million), electricity for 2.8 percent ($18.2 million), and leather for 0.5 percent ($3.2 million).

During this period, Tajikistan's total foreign trade turnover reached $3.393 billion, which is a decrease of 9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The country’s imports during this period amounted to $2.74 billion, which is an increase of $414.7 million or 18 percent compared to the same period of 2022 ($2.325 billion).

Exports stood at $653.3 million, decreasing by $739.4 million or 53 percent compared to the first half of the previous year ($1.392 billion).
