DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 28. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a technical assistance grant of $500,000 to prepare an investment project focused on strengthening healthcare in Tajikistan, Trend reports.
According to the bank, this grant will facilitate additional financing to expand the existing $32 million grant approved by ADB in 2018 for the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Care Project. Currently, the ongoing project aims to assist the Tajikistan government in enhancing healthcare services in the districts of Fayzobod, Rasht, and Shamsiddin Shohin.
The planned additional funding will broaden the scope of maternal and child health services to three additional districts: Darvoz, Dangara, and Ayni.
Furthermore, it will continue to provide ongoing support for the development of national policies in areas such as case-based hospital financing and healthcare workforce management.
"The technical assistance grant will prepare technical design, detailed costing, and due diligence and will support advance actions and the startup of the proposed additional financing," ADB said.
Tajikistan became an ADB member in 1998. Throughout the past 25 years, ADB has extended support to various sectors within the country, ranging from essential road and energy infrastructure to healthcare, skills enhancement, food security, climate change, and financial aid. The total assistance amounts to $2.5 billion, with approximately $2 billion in grants.
ADB's country partnership strategy for Tajikistan for 2021–2025 outlines three key priorities: implementing structural reforms to improve the allocation and mobilization of resources; enhancing human capital development to increase labor productivity; and promoting improved livelihoods by investing in the land-linked economy.
