Humanitarian aid provided to Tajikistan decreases

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 29. Tajikistan received humanitarian assistance totaling around $43.5 million from January through July 2023, which is $39.5 million less than during the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

According to the Statistical Agency of Tajikistan, this aid, with a combined weight of 18,000 tons, came from 51 countries worldwide. The number of donors decreased from 56 countries in the same period last year.

The leading contributors by the value of assistance were China (accounting for 29 percent of the total value) and the US (25.2 percent).

Significant shares of assistance also came from Belgium (10.7 percent), Russia (8 percent), Kazakhstan (4.2 percent), Tükiye (2.9 percent), Denmark (2.7 percent), India (2.6 percent), Uzbekistan (1.9 percent), Germany (1.6 percent), Sweden and South Korea (both at 1.5 percent), France (1.4 percent), and the Netherlands (1 percent).

Tajikistan received $141 million worth of humanitarian assistance from 59 countries in 2022.

Last year, China sent the largest amount of humanitarian assistance to Tajikistan (32.6 percent of the total) followed by the US (24.5 percent), Belgium (6.5 percent of the total) India (5.2 percent), Russia and Japan ( both at 3.5 percent), the Netherlands and Sweden (both at 1.9 percent).
