DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 5. Tajikistan’s exports of fruits amounted to approximately $17 million from January through June 2023, of which around $2 million were fresh fruits, Trend reports.
The country aims to increase the volume of fresh fruit exports to 30,000 tons and generate more than $8 million in revenue by 2025.
Among the fruits produced in the country, apricots take the lead in cultivation and export volume. The average annual export amounts to approximately 25,000 tons, including 3,500 tons of fresh apricots. Annual export values range from $20 million to $25 million.
Grapes come in second place, with an annual cultivation volume of around 300,000 tons, of which up to 50,000 tons are exported. Tajikistan exports fresh grapes worth over $10 million annually.
Pistachios follow, with Tajikistan exporting about 1,000 tons of this product in 2022, with a value of $1.2 million.
In the previous year, the export of fresh plums amounted to around 4,500 tons worth $924,000, while dried plums (prunes) saw approximately 500 tons exported for $320,000.
Peaches and nectarines rank fifth in popularity among fruits grown and exported from Tajikistan. In the previous year, Tajikistan earned over half a million dollars from the export of fresh peaches and nectarines.
Additionally, lemons and cherries were exported in 2022, with around 1,400 tons of lemons worth $481,000 and about 600 tons of cherries worth $353,000.
