Khatlon region in Tajikistan breaks down agricultural export data

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 17. A total of 7,500 tons of agricultural products were exported from Tajikistan’s Khatlon region from January through September 2023, Trend reports.

Some 5,700 tons of these products were transported by air, while 1,900 tons were shipped by rail. The majority of Khatlon's agricultural exports found their way to Russia, Afghanistan, Türkiye Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Belarus.

Over 2,100 tons of various vegetables were sold abroad, including more than 1,900 tons of onions, over 718 tons of potatoes, 2,900 tons of fruits such as lemons, 1,500 tons of grapes, and 113 tons of other products.

The overall volume of agricultural production in the region has increased by 5 percent year-on-year to 25.4 billion somoni ($2.3 billion) from January through September 2023.

At the same time, the external trade turnover of Khatlon amounted to $365.6 million in the first nine months of 2023, which is a decrease of $10.9 million compared to the same period in 2022.

Furthermore, the Khatlon region has been paying special attention to the development of its industrial sector, with plans to launch over 200 new enterprises in the region by the end of 2026.
