DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 5. Residents of 11 districts in the Sughd region of Tajikistan will receive humanitarian aid from the Tajik Red Crescent Society (TRCS), with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Tajikistan, Trend reports.

Parviz Jabborzoda, the head of the Red Crescent Society office in the Sughd region, mentioned that it is expected that over 16,000 individuals will receive essential food items.

He noted that essential food items such as flour, oil, and lentils will be distributed to those residents of the Sughd region who are economically disadvantaged, orphans, elderly individuals, and people with disabilities.

"The food aid is distributed in three phases. During the first and second phases, assistance has already been provided to this category of individuals. The residents in need in the region have already received 75 kg of flour, 10 liters of oil, and 6 kg of lentils twice," he said, adding that over the past ten years, this level of assistance from the TRCS has been provided to such a large number of people for the first time.

According to him, residents in need from the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region, the Khatlon region, and the Rasht valley will also receive similar food assistance. In total, more than 60,000 people across the country are expected to receive food items, all of which have undergone on-site quality certification.

The Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan, established on December 23, 1927, is the largest humanitarian institution in the country. The organization operates in accordance with the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
