Assets of financial and credit organizations in Tajikistan increase

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 28. The assets of financial and credit institutions in Tajikistan reached 39.6 billion somoni ($3.6 billion) in 2023, which is a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year, Trend reports.

President Emomali Rahmon shared this preliminary information while addressing the country's Supreme Assembly.

According to him, this year, loans provided by the banking system increased by 31.1 percent compared to 2022, totaling 18.5 billion somoni (1.7 billion). The number of microloans rose by 32.1 percent, reaching 13.3 billion somoni ($1.2 billion). Additionally, loans offered to businesswomen increased by 30 percent, totaling 4.8 billion somoni ($442 million).

The president highlighted that in 2023, the overall balance of savings from both individuals and legal entities in domestic credit organizations grew by 32 percent, reaching 18.6 billion somoni ($1.7 billion).

Rahmon emphasized the need for the National Bank and credit institutions to seek additional funding sources. He urged for an increase in the provision of long-term, accessible, and low-interest loans.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of fully implementing digital banking services across all regions of the country and extensively utilizing financial technologies.

"The government, as outlined in the National Development Strategy until 2030, has recognized the development of the private sector, entrepreneurship, and investment as the main drivers to achieve national objectives. This initiative aims to foster favorable conditions for business growth and investment activities, rendering the country's economy more appealing for investments and geared towards enhancing exports," said Rahmon.

On December 28, the President of Tajikistan delivered his annual address to the Supreme Assembly, outlining the main directions of the country's domestic and foreign policies.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister, government members, the Head of the Executive Office of the President of Tajikistan, heads of ministries and state committees, representatives of various social, political, and creative associations, leaders of republican enterprises and institutions, banks, a group of businessmen and entrepreneurs, youth activists, representatives of diplomatic missions, and journalists.
