DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 29. Tajikistan needs to take a series of measures to achieve energy independence in the coming years, the country's President Emomali Rahmon said in his address to the country's Supreme Assembly, Trend reports.
These initiatives, according to his statement, include the continued building of hydroelectric power stations such as "Rogun" and "Sebzor," as well as the rehabilitation of existing hydroelectric stations. Additionally, efforts to get finance for new facilities aimed at producing "green" energy and boosting the country's energy capacity by 10,000 megawatts are being expanded.
He highlighted that the second measure involves accelerating the pace of technical substantiation and design work for hydroelectric power stations like "Sovet" with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts on the Vakhsh river, "Sanobod" with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts on the Panj river, and "Charsem" with a capacity of 14 megawatts on the Gun river.
The Tajik president mentioned that the third measure involves taking urgent steps to increase electricity exports to 10 billion kilowatt-hours within the next 7 years, in conjunction with the implementation of projects like the CASA-1000 transmission lines and joining the Central Asia power grid.
"Fourthly, we need to ensure timely and high-quality implementation of state investment projects to reduce electricity losses and achieve rates of no more than 9 percent losses," Rahmon said.
According to him, the fifth measure aims to achieve the goals of the "green" economy development strategy by practically establishing hydroelectric stations. By 2030, the plan is to increase alternative "green" energy production capacities by at least 1000 megawatts, integrating solar and wind resources.
Finally, there is a push to intensify efforts towards adopting energy-efficient equipment in social, economic, production, and communication facilities throughout the country, promoting a culture of responsible electricity usage among the population.
