DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 13. The new drinking water provision system in Lakhsh district was inaugurated by Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon and European Union Ambassador to Tajikistan Raimundas Karoblis., Trend reports via the EU.
The project, backed by the EU, was carried out by Caritas Switzerland in collaboration with local partners. It sets out to quench the thirst of around 4,000 residents of Vahdat town, throwing a lifeline to local schools and medical facilities in the process.
The initiative will open the floodgates to water access for 1,700 households, casting a wide net of benefits for around 9,000 individuals in the neighboring villages of the district center.
The system employs gravity-fed water sent via a 160-millimeter pipeline extending 18 kilometers to two reservoirs, each with a capacity of 250 cubic meters.
Construction kicked off in March 2023, with over 40 local specialists rolling up their sleeves and bringing their industry-specific tools to the table, all to make sure the project wraps up on time.
