Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appointed A. Rejepov as supreme judge. He was promoted from the Kopetdag District Court in Ashgabat. The document was issued in accordance with Article 60 of the Turkmen law on the judicial system. Judges in the country are appointed by the president. Staffing changes covered all regional courts. Article 101 of the Constitution states: "Judges are independent. They obey only the law and are guided by their inner conviction. Interference in the work of judges is unacceptable and punishable. The immunity of judges is guaranteed by law." In the early 2009, the Prosecutor General's Office audit revealed large-scale staff reductions in the government.
