Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov called for involving the OSCE in the implementation of his country's initiative to establish the Forum on Security and Cooperation in Central Asia and the Caspian Basin, the Vatan newspaper reported.
The initiative concerns creating a U.N. system regulating political consultations at the highest level between Central Asian and Caspian countries.
Ashgabat called for strengthening international cooperation to address the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disarmament and arms control.
"For Central Asia and the Caspian Basin, which now forms major energy, transport and communications nodes, disarmament is the U.N.'s most important area of activity," the newspaper reported.
The initiative implies holding the forum on a regular basis.
The headquarters of the U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is located in Ashgabat.
