Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Oct. 11 / Trend, H. Hasanov /
Gaffney, Cline & Associates (GCA) representative Jim Gillett announced new data of potential natural gas reserves on the South Eloten-Osman field, located in the Mary region of Turkmenistan - east region of the country.
The diplomats and media representatives attended the presentation.
This gas field can be considered as the second one in the world: its reserves hit 21.2
trillion cubic meters of gas according to high estimation, 16.4 trillion cubic meters according to best estimate, 13.1 trillion cubic meters according to low estimation.
As it is known, the world's largest gas field is located in the central part of the Persian Gulf in the territorial waters of Qatar (North) and Iran (South Pars). They are separated by tectonic break. North / South Pars reserves are estimated at 28 trillion cubic meters of gas.The Yoloten field has great amount of gas in an area of almost 4,000 square kilometers.
The Western and Indian markets consider Turkmenistan as a promising natural gas source. China, Russia and Iran purchase it. Gillett said that Turkmenistan has more than enough reserves to supply gas via various routes.
As it is known, the Caspian country has been implementing one of the most
large-scale projects in the area. "Turkmengaz" State Concern with foreign companies from China, Korea and the UAE is implementing a project to initially develop the Southern Yoloten to the amount of $10 billion. The companies were attracted at the service conditions.
Its development was launched on the basis of GCA audit presented in the 2008. Its approximate reserves were estimated at 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, putting the field on
fourth place in the world.
After complex operations were conducted in late October 2010, TurkmenGeology state corporation increased the expected reserves within 21 trillion cubic meters of gas. After detailed computer data processing, the exact geological and geophysical models of these gas deposits were created.
According to Turkmen geologists' estimates and the category C1, the Southern Yoloten-Osman fields are potentially estimated at 9.985 trillion cubic meters, category C2 - 11.055 trillion cubic meters. In total, the figure hits more than 21 trillion
cubic meters of gas.
Local specialists operated using highly effective software "Omega", "GeoFrame",
"Finder", "Petrel" (manufactured by Schlumberger), "GeoClaster",
"Petrovision" (from SGGVeritas company) and a number of other systems.
Turkmen geologists conducted additional 3D seismic surveys in the South Yoloten-Osman and Minara fields. They drilled several new deep wells.
Additional and more accurate geological and geophysical data were obtained. The length of these fields is 105 kilometers and width - 30-35 kilometers.
Specialists stressed that additional seismic and geological exploration drilling operations will be conducted to fully specify the geological structure of Yoloten, Minara plots, the south-western and north-western parts of this group of fields, as well as to finally determine oil and gas resource potential and to prepare the best design solutions for their development.
