Europe has expressed a great interest in natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan is one of the largest gas suppliers to the world markets, Austrian President Heinz Fischer said. His statement was published in the local press after his visit to Ashgabat on Oct. 12-13.
Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service said that the Austrian President spoke about the possibilities of cooperation to implement the Nabucco pipeline project. The Austrian side is very interested in this project.
The honorary guest expressed gratitude to the Turkmen President for the understanding and the openness of the Turkmen side to the mutually beneficial partnership in this issue.
According to the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper, President Fischer expressed his support for the policy implemented by Turkmenistan in the field and aimed at diversifying energy export routes, including European direction.
Turkmenistan is one of the most important partners in the field of energy security for Austria and the EU. In particular, the Nabucco project will deliver gas from the Caspian region and Middle East to the EU countries. This will diversify the sources of supplying raw materials.
