Brazil is seeking to strengthen friendly relations with Turkmenistan, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's message addressed to the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.

It is decided to accredit Osvaldo Biata Junior as Ambassador to Turkmenistan to maintain and further strengthen the friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Brazil, the message says.

The Turkmen government said that on behalf of President Berimuhammadov chairman of the Mejlis (parliament) Akja Nurberdiyeva received credentials of the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador.

Ambassador Junior was informed about the key directions of the national parliament's activity and reforms in legislative sphere.

The sides expressed interest and a mutual desire to intensify the intergovernmental dialogue, which has great prospects, despite the geographical distance between the two countries and stressed the importance of boosting trade, economic and humanitarian Turkmen-Brazilian cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the dialogue between Turkmenistan and Latin American countries.

In recent years Turkmenistan intensified cooperation with Latin American countries, including Mexico and Venezuela. In particular, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez visited Turkmenistan in late 2009.

The promising directions of business cooperation are trade, fuel and energy complex, agriculture, textiles, tourism, high technology and the sphere of practical use of alternative energy sources.

The parties are negotiating to organize joint exhibitions.
