A regular meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan was held, which was attended by the CEC members, national observers, media representatives, within preparation for the upcoming presidential elections in the capital, Turkmenistan state news agency reported.
The main issue on the meeting's agenda is registration of presidential candidate in Turkmenistan nominated by public associations and organizations.
The current Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has been registered as a candidate for the highest office. The day before the President arrived in the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan.
Berdimuhammadov's was unanimously nominated for the upcoming elections in 2012 by participants of the joint meeting of the Democratic Party, trade unions, Makhtumkuli Youth Organization, War Veterans' Organization and Turkmenistan's Women's Union on Dec.15, 2011.
The next important stage of election campaign - registration of applicants for the post of Turkmen President - began in the country on Dec. 29, 2011. So far, Turkmenistan has registered several candidates for the highest office.
