Georgia attaches particular importance to long-term cooperation with dynamically developing Turkmenistan, preserving a high pace of socio-economic development in difficult times, the Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said in Ashgabat.

These words from the Foreign Minister were used in an article of Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on Friday, reporting his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammadov.

As priority areas of bilateral cooperation, both parties stressed energy, trade and economic fields, which 'have major prospects in view of existing mutual interest.

Mr Vashadze also conveyed the greetings of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to the head of the Turkmen state. Mr Berdymuhammadov noted "a progressive attitude of Turkmen-Georgian bilateral relations which have a new dynamism in recent years."

In his opinion, "taking into account the high pace of development of Turkmenistan and Georgia which have enormous economic potential and rich experience of independent development, now is the time to move on a new stage of bilateral relations."

As local media reported, Mr Vashadze underlined that Georgia appreciates and fully supports Turkmenistan's "peaceable policy and the important international principles made by it, aimed at resolving actual problems of today and the consolidation of foundations for peace and global security."
