President: Turkmen national army has good, modern equipment

The Turkmen national army receives the most modern equipment and this in turn steadily raises the level of professional military personnel, the Turkmen president and commander in chief of the armed forces Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting of the State Safety Council, the Turkmen government said today.
The president stressed that, implementing the status of permanent neutrality delegated by the community of nations, Turkmenistan in practice realises its peacekeeping potential, making positive initiatives to resolve the urgent issues concerning all progressive mankind.
"Peace lies at the basis of military doctrine, having an exclusively defensive character," President Berdimuhamedov said. "The Turkmen government will continue to take all measures to ensure a high level of combat readiness of its Armed Forces.
Turkmenistan borders Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and across the Caspian Sea, with Azerbaijan.
According to the information the defence minister, the head of the State Border Service and other law enforcement agencies made reports. The Customs Service gave its results on the service's activity. It has an important and responsible mission to thoroughly check all goods transported through the state border.
The layout of border patrol ship Arkadag, the first ship built in Turkmenistan was presented to the president.
Local media reported on Wednesday that the national parliament decided to name one of the units of the Interior Ministry on behalf of the lieutenant-colonel of internal service, honorary veteran of the interior bodies Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov. He is the father of the Turkmen leader.
The Supreme Court also reported on measures taken to improve the judicial system.
