Turkmenistan is preparing for local self-government elections which will be held on August 19 for members of people's councils and gengeshes, the local media writes.

Election commissions are preparing and conducting the elections and constituencies are being formed for the election. A voters list is made at each polling station.

Significant changes are made in this part of the law. The first amendment is that those citizens who are 18 on the day of the election are included in the lists.

The second change on the list of voters is the inclusion of citizens by the place of permanent or primarily residence.

The newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan noted that one of the key stages of any campaign is nomination and registration of candidates. In this regard the law as amended. Now, the right to nominate candidates to the people's councils and gengesh belongs to political parties and public associations which registered six months before the date of the elections and to groups of citizens.

The costs of preparing and holding elections are funded only through the state budget of Turkmenistan.

The legislator does not allow funding of elections through any form of public authorities, local governments, individuals and legal entities of Turkmenistan as well as foreign governments, foreign governmental agencies and enterprises, international organisations, foreign individuals and legal entities.
