Turkmenistan has completed the registration procedure of candidates for two vacant seats in parliament and members of local bodies. The elections are scheduled for August 19, the CEC said today.

Turkmenistan has completed the registration procedure of candidates for two vacant seats in parliament and members of local bodies. The elections are scheduled for August 19, the CEC said today.

Employees of the agricultural industry, education, science and culture, financial and economic sectors, health and social protection, different sectors of the economy such as industry, construction and communications are among the candidates.

According to the report, most of them represent voluntary associations: the Democratic Party (the only party in the country), trade unions, youth and women's organisations.

'The real participation of all bodies of civilian society is ensured in resolving the most important issues', the information said.

Two candidates were registered for members of parliament (Majlis) in the electoral district No. 26 in Kaah district of the Akhal region and No. 99 of Mary.

According to the reports of the heads of regional election commissions, around 12,309 candidates have been registered in the country for the positions of 6100 members of local bodies.
