Turkmenistan in accordance with the basic principles of its foreign policy pursued under the guidance of the President of Turkmenistan, will steadily adhere to the strategies and policies of close and full cooperation with the United Nations, fully contributing to the strengthening of its authority and influence in the world during the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Toyli Komekov said at a press conference in Baku.

Turkmenistan in accordance with the basic principles of its foreign policy pursued under the guidance of the President of Turkmenistan, will steadily adhere to the strategies and policies of close and full cooperation with the United Nations, fully contributing to the strengthening of its authority and influence in the world during the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Toyli Komekov said at a press conference in Baku.

"Our country will focus on the need to develop qualitatively new approaches in solving international problems and will continue incremental measures to implement Turkmenistan's international initiatives put forward in the framework of the UN," he added.

Komekov noted that the substance of foreign policy efforts of Turkmenistan during the 67th session of the General Assembly will focus on the following areas: peace and security, sustainable development, energy security, environment and climate change, humanitarian dimension.

"Turkmenistan will cooperate with all UN Member States and other partners on international cooperation, based on the principles of mutual interests, constructive dialogue and international law during the process of caring out its plants in the frame of the 67th session," the Ambassador said.

He noted that Turkmenistan considers intensifying the provision of non-proliferation and disarmament as one of the primary challenges, faced by the international community today.

"As a party to core international treaties and UN conventions, such as the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and other multilateral instruments, Turkmenistan intends to continue to provide all possible assistance to the disarmament process in the world" Komekov added.

He said that Turkmenistan is ready to active cooperation with the Office of the Under Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs and participation in a number of initiatives in this regard.

"Further improvement of the relevant UN agencies may be one of the practical steps in implementing progressive measures in disarmament," he said. "Moreover, the Turkmen side initiates the establishment of the Subregional Centre for Disarmament in Asia."

He added that Turkmenistan will voice a number of initiatives on the fight against terrorism within the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

"Turkmenistan stands for the practical implementation of the provisions of the Ashgabat final declaration and the Joint Action Plan, adopted following the international high-level meeting on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia in Ashgabat in late November 2011 to implement the most effective ways to tackle terrorism and organized crime.

Turkmenistan's initiative on establishing the UN information-coordination centers to combat terrorism in different world countries is relevant," the diplomat said.

Komekov added that joint efforts of member-states of the Organization in the fight against drug trafficking, partnership in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing are considered as the priority areas of cooperation within the United Nations.

"Turkmenistan will continue the consistent implementation of effective measures to eliminate these threats and challenges," the Ambassador said.
