EBRD expresses interest in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received the representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and member of the EBRD board of directors and Director for Switzerland, Ukraine, Liechtenstein, Turkmenistan, Montenegro, Serbia and Moldova, Werner Gruber, the Turkmen State News Agency reported today.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received the representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and member of the EBRD board of directors and Director for Switzerland, Ukraine, Liechtenstein, Turkmenistan, Montenegro, Serbia and Moldova, Werner Gruber, the Turkmen State News Agency reported today.

According to Gruber, the bank is proud to cooperate with Turkmenistan demonstrating the impressive achievements in the socio-economic development area and is interested in further promoting bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting Berdimuhamedov emphasised that Turkmenistan is always ready for a constructive dialogue with all interested sides. He said that the EBRD is one of Turkmenistan's oldest partners, taking an active part in the implementation of joint projects and stressed the great potential for the expansion of fruitful cooperation.

They exchanged views on the prospects and possibilities of enhancing cooperation within large scale reforms in Turkmenistan.

According to the Turkmen president, the study of the experience of Europe and the world's largest banks and the introduction of modern governance methods in the financial sector are of particular relevance for Turkmen specialists today.

Gruber called for the strengthening of established relations and a business partnership, stressing that one of the important factors of this interest is the huge economic and resource potential of the country.

The banking and financial sector, the development of cooperation with the private sector, promoting Turkmenistan's economic integration by financing new projects, including the formation of a modern transport infrastructure are among the priorities.

Berdimuhamedov stressed that the widest opportunities are being opened for effective cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD.
