Ambassador: Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan prepare package of intergovernmental agreements

Currently, preparations are carried out for the signing of a number of agreements between Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia in the near future, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Turkmenistan Turki Khalid Al-Hasher said in his interview to "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper.

"An agreement on air service and agreement on avoidance of double taxation are among them," the diplomat stressed.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992 and five years later, the embassy of Saudi Arabia was opened in Ashgabat.

In April, 2007 Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid his first visit to Saudi Arabia during which a general cooperation agreement was signed. Turkmenistan's embassy in Riyadh was opened in 2008.

As a result of mutual visits by official delegations representing different sectors and spheres of the two countries, the development of relations has been intensified in recent years.

The two countries are studying possibilities of partnering in fuel and energy , cement production and that of other construction materials, as well as in agriculture, including animal husbandry, the cultivation of grain and forage crops.
