The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan (CEC) has summed up the final results of parliamentary elections held on December 15 in the country, a special message of Turkmen CEC said on Dec.19.
"The voting took place at 2446 polling stations in the constituencies. Some 33 polling stations were also opened at embassies and consular offices of Turkmenistan," the CEC said.
The number of people who participated in the elections was 2,797,637 or 91.33 per cent of all Turkmen citizens who have the right to vote, the CEC said.
Around 125 MPs were elected out of 283 candidates over the country, according to the final data. Two or more candidates were running for one mandate in all constituencies.
The elected MPs are: some 47 representatives from the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, 14- Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, 33 - Federation of Trade Unions, 16 - the Women's Union, eight - Magtumguly Youth Organisation and seven - groups of citizens, according to the CEC.
Representatives of state institutions, leading specialists from various branches of the national economy, education and science, culture and art, workers of agriculture of Turkmenistan are among the MPs in the new composition of the national parliament.
Alongside with citizens of Turkmen origin, the new corps of deputies also includes representatives from the Russian, Kazakh and Uzbek diasporas of the country, according to the CEC.
