EU businesses to intensify cooperation with Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the Honorary Consul of Turkmenistan in Belgium, Koen Minne, who announced the desire of EU business circles to build mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan, Altyn Asir national TV channel reported March 28.

"The guest emphasized the continued aspiration of Belgian and other EU member states' business circles to strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan, pointing out the high interest of European partners to strengthen the productive relationship," Altyn Asir TV channel reported.

Minne also brought attention to the favorable investment climate in Turkmenistan.
The parties discussed the prospects of business partnership in power sector and other industries with current realities and the existing profound potential for further development of effective relations, the TV channel said.

Ashgabat and Brussels have intensified their economic relations in recent years. Belgian Enex process engineering SA has opened its official representative office in Ashgabat, Turkmen capital. The company cooperates in processing and chemical industry, telecommunications sphere, and in introduction of environmentally friendly energy-saving technologies.

Within the consortium with the French Schneider Electric, Enex signed an agreement with the government of Turkmenistan on ensuring the energy security of the Turkmen capital in 2010.

The project aims to improve the quality and reliability of the power supply system and response to growth in energy consumption as a result of Ashgabat's dynamic development. It is planned to implement the project by 2017 in three stages.
