Turkmen president dissatisfied with cotton-picking campaign pace

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov expressed dissatisfaction at the governmental meeting with the pace of the agricultural work, primarily cotton harvesting, the national channel Altyn Asir reported.
In this regard, the president demanded to make the necessary organizational arrangements in order to ensure that the regions fulfill their commitments on delivering raw cotton.
Berdimuhammadov said that it is necessary that cottont would be harvested in full and in optimal time.
The country started to harvest in early September, it is planned to procure 1.5 million metric tons of raw cotton.
The total area of land allocated for cotton is 545,000 hectares. Cotton is a major source of the country's export, and it is the raw material for dozens of modern enterprises of the dynamically developing Turkmenistan's textile industry.
Last year, cotton growers exceeded their contractual obligations by delivering about 1.2 million metric tons of raw cotton to the state.
