The growth rate of Turkmenistan's power generation in the first 9 months of 2014 (versus the same period of last year) stood at 111.1 percent, according to a message from Turkmenistan's State Committee for Statistics.

Earlier it was reported that Turkmenistan annually exports over 2.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to neighboring countries. That is 13-15 percent of the total electricity generated in the country.

Currently, Turkmenistan works to increase the electricity export to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. The possibility of transmitting power to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and the Caucasian countries is under study.

Under the concept of the power industry development in Turkmenistan in 2013-2020, it is planned to build 14 gas turbine thermal power plants in various regions of the country.

Turkmenistan plans to bring power generation capacity to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours by 2020, and to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours - by 2030.
