Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea Jong Tae-in, who presented his credentials, said the message of the government of the country Nov.14.
The ambassador said that his country attaches great importance to developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation, which has the capacity in such areas as trade, fuel and energy complex, transport and construction.
South Korean President Park Geun-hye visited Ashgabat in June 2014 as part of her tour of Central Asia for the first time. She held talks with the Turkmen president. A package of inter-governmental documents was signed following the talks.
Some big South Korean companies are successfully operating in Turkmenistan. In particular, LG International and Hundai Engineering Co.LTD implemented a big project on Galkynysh hydrocarbon deposit development in Turkmenistan upon the service conditions in the amount of $1.2 billion. This field has the biggest natural gas reserves in the country.
Earlier, Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) presented its potential in increasing bilateral potential in Ashgabat. Among them are the issues of the current status of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) project and Kogas's proposal to Turkmenistan regarding this project.
It was reported in October that the South Korean corporation Dongil Construction offered a draft of the 15th stage of construction in Ashgabat. It envisages the construction of a complex of social and cultural facilities, comfortable residential buildings upon the order of the country's ministries and departments.
