Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree to appoint Parakhat Durdiyev the country’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Sri Lanka.

Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree to appoint Parakhat Durdiyev the country's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Sri Lanka, read a message from Turkmenistan's government.

Durdiyev will also head the country's diplomatic mission in India.

Ashgabat has intensified its relations with South Asia in recent years. India and Pakistan have been involved in Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project. Bangladesh also shows interest in this project.

TAPI gas pipeline will make it possible to deliver gas from Turkmenistan to large and promising markets of South and Southeast Asia.
