Turkmenistan’s activity within its chairmanship at the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) will focus on the fight against the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and prevention of ecosystems’ degradation in the Aral Sea region.

Turkmenistan’s activity within its chairmanship at the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) will focus on the fight against the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and prevention of ecosystems’ degradation in the Aral Sea region, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported Jan. 21.

The agenda includes such issues as the conservation of biodiversity and environment in Central Asia and the sustainable use of natural resources, promote economic and social development of the region’s peoples.

Turkmenistan will chair the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in 2017-2019.

The IFAS was established in 1993 to support scientific and practical research and organize financing social and economic and environmental programs in the region aimed at improving environmental situation of Aral Sea region.
