Turkmenistan’s GDP grows 6.2% since early 2017

GDP growth rate in Turkmenistan amounted to 6.2 percent in Jan.-Mar. 2017, the country’s president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

The growth rate has increased by 1.8 percent in the industrial sector, 4.4 percent – construction, 10.8 percent – transportation and communication sector, 10.4 percent – trade, 3.4 percent – agriculture and 10.8 percent – sphere of services, the Turkmen president said.

Compared with the same period last year, the volume of investments directed to various sectors of the Turkmen economy increased, Berdimuhamedov noted, adding that nearly 1,900 large facilities worth over $48 billion are being built in Turkmenistan.

“The market economy is being formed, oil and gas fields are being developed, construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline is underway,” the Turkmen president said.

He added that largest enterprises for the production of urea and ammonia, gas chemical complex for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene are being built in Turkmenistan.
