Ensuring stable and reliable supply of energy resources to foreign consumers is one of Turkmenistan's priority goals, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his address to the participants of the international exhibition and conference titled "The Main Trends of Development of the Energy Industry of Turkmenistan", which opened Sept. 6.
When implementing large-scale energy projects, Turkmenistan pays great attention to international cooperation, the address says.
"The achieved accelerated pace of development of the energy sector allows us to systematically increase the export of electricity, which is in great demand in foreign markets," Berdimuhamedov noted.
A significant increase in the potential of this industry has been possible thanks to construction of power plants in a short time, laying new power transmission lines, he noted.
The transnational power transmission lines are of great economic and geopolitical importance, contributing to strengthening of peace and sustainable development in the region, expansion of partnerships between states, the message reads.
In accordance with the national program of social and economic development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030 and the concept of development of the power industry for 2013-2020, the electricity production will be significantly increased. It is expected that the gas turbine power plants, which will be built in the future in the regions of the country, will significantly increase the national power generating capacity.
"I am sure this international exhibition and scientific conference will provide you with opportunities to get acquainted with the achievements of the energy sector of Turkmenistan, to exchange information, to discuss new promising projects, topical issues of effective use of energy-saving technologies and sources of renewable energy, outline vectors for mutually beneficial cooperation," the presidential address says.
Turkmen electricity is exported to Afghanistan and Iran. A project of construction of a high-voltage transmission line in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan direction is being implemented.
