Myratdurdy Orazdurdyev, the Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, has been appointed Governor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from Turkmenistan, a presidential decree says.
EBRD was established in 1991, at a time when communist regimes collapsed in Central and Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet countries needed support to create a new private sector.
EBRD's investment instruments are used to establish market economy in 30 countries situated in the territories extending from Central Europe to Central Asia.
As of June, EBRD has invested more than 250 million euros in various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan in 65 investment projects, and also has supported more than 200 enterprises in consulting projects.
