The development of sports in Turkmenistan is one of the national ideas and objectives of the Turkmen state, which makes every effort to achieve the desired goals.
With the implementation of the reform policy initiated by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the sports in Turkmenistan have become a vivid symbol of the ascent to the new heights of civic spirit, progress and creativeness.
The “There is a healthy spirit in a healthy body” motto has gained immense popularity among the younger generation of Turkmen citizens largely due to just the personal example of the country's president.
The V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which were held with great success in September 2017, as well as the high-level implementation of this year’s International Rally Amul-Khazar 2018, show that Turkmenistan makes a great contribution to the history of sports
The World Weightlifting Championship in Ashgabat has become a new event in the world sports calendar.
The weight lifting can be referred to one of the oldest types of competitions. As it is known, the achievements in weightlifting do not require presence of an opponent. This championship is also notable for the fact that 34 world records have been registered since the beginning of the World Weightlifting Championship, which takes place in Ashgabat.
During the first four days of the championship, four world records were registered among young athletes, 14 records - among juniors and 16 records - among adult athletes in eight weight categories.
Some 26 of these records belong to the athletes of Asian countries. The representatives of the European countries have updated five world records.
The remaining three world records were updated by weightlifters from South and North America.
Turkmenistan has done everything to adequately host these prestigious competitions and hold them at a high organizational level.
