In 2019, government procurement prices for wheat and cotton will be increased in Turkmenistan, Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan said in a message.

Starting from January, the price of one ton of wheat will rise twice for state-owned enterprises - up to 800 manats. The state will buy one ton of fine-fiber cotton varieties from citizens for 2,000 manats, medium-fiber varieties at 1,500 manats.

For comparison, the previous prices were 1,650 and 1,144 manats respectively.

Turkmenistan had earlier planned to produce 1.60 million tons of grain and 1.05 million tons of cotton in 2018. About 760,000 hectares of land are traditionally allocated for grain and 545,000 hectares for cotton.

A decree "On the further improvement of reforms in the agricultural sector" was also signed, earlier reports read.

Land plots from the newly established special land fund allocated to societies of Turkmenistan, daihan (peasant) farms, other legal entities and citizens (commodity producers) will be provided for use up to 99 years.

At least, seventy percent of the allocated plots must be planted with wheat, cotton and other agricultural crops to supply the state.

Producers can keep or sell the surplus of products, grown on land plots allocated from the land fund, to the state at state procurement prices.
