Turkmenistan announces date of grain harvesting

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov has set the date for the start of grain-harvesting in the country, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

According to the president’s order, the grain-harvesting should begin in the Akhal, Lebap and Mary regions on June 5, 2020, and in the Balkan and Dashoguz regions on June 12, 2020.

In 2019, Turkmenistan started grain-harvesting in early June. In the course of last year's winter, more than 1.1 million tons of wheat were delivered to Turkmenistan's procurement points. About 2,000 "CLAAS", "John Deere", "Case", "New Holland" grain-harvester combines were involved.

Just as last year, Turkmenistan is allocating state land to enterprises for the production of wheat. For wheat production, the Turkmen state provides seeds, mineral fertilizers and means for combating agricultural pests on preferential terms.

Agriculture is one of the most important branches of Turkmenistan's economy. The main types of agricultural crops are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruit crops.
