Turkmenistan evaluates new varieties of cotton

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan is conducting different tests in order to evaluate new varieties of cotton, Trend reports with reference to 'Ahal durmusu' newspaper.

During the first stage, cotton varieties are tested in research institutes, where new ones are also created. In this cotton test, varieties with low yield or low quality are excluded.

Competitive test of cotton is also conducted in research institutes. At this stage, each variety is grown on an area of 100 square meters and evaluated. If new varieties that were planted in the field have a higher yield than the standard variety, it can be passed to the state variety test.

All types of tests are carried out in areas with high crop rotation.

Just as last year, Turkmenistan is allocating state land for wheat production to enterprises. For wheat production, the Turkmen state provides seeds, mineral fertilizers and means for combating agricultural pests on preferential terms.

Agriculture is one of the most important branches of Turkmenistan's economy. The main types of agricultural crops are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruit crops.
