A program of economic cooperation for 2021-2023 was signed between Turkmenistan and Russia, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The signing ceremony was held during a meeting between the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation - Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Russia Alexey Overchuk, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.
The meeting in an expanded format was also attended by the heads of a number of relevant ministries and structures of the two countries.
During the conversation, the parties discussed the current situation and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia in a wide range of areas of mutual interest. The high level and intensive character of the Turkmen-Russian relations under the leadership of the heads of the two states was confirmed.
The meeting parties noted that one of the main directions of interstate cooperation is the partnership of Turkmenistan with the regions of Russia, in the context of which it was proposed to intensify this segment of cooperation. They also touched upon the topic of joint activities in the fields of energy, gas chemistry, transport and geology.
Discussing cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture, the parties emphasized the need to further intensify mutual actions in order to expand humanitarian cooperation.
Earlier, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with TASS that transport and logistics have the potential to strengthen economic relations between Turkmenistan and Russia.
According to him, in the economic sphere, Russia has been among the leaders in terms of the volume of foreign trade with Turkmenistan for many years and is one of its leading investment partners.
